The data for the report and enquiry/snapshot is defined by the "From" and "To date" parameters selected by the user in the dialog form for the "Employment Equity report" (Referred to below as the "Report period"). The data retrieved, filters and selects all employees whose "Employment start date" is before, or equal to the "To date" parameter, and "Employment end date" is greater or equal to the "From date" parameter, thus identifying all employees who were still employed as at the "To date" parameter and whose employment started and/or ended during that period.
EE report data definition: The report gathers all relevant report data for employees whose employment valid "To date" is greater than, or equal to the Report period "From date", and "Employment valid from date" is less than, or equal to the Report period "End date".
Employees per category: Number of workers, support workers, support workers with disabilities, core workers and core workers with disabilities - Displays the number of employees per category as at the report period "End date".
Terminated: Counts all employees per category whose "Employment valid to date" falls within the report period and according to the date criteria in section d of the report specification, i.e. (extract attached below) “The reporting on Termination in Section C 5.1 and 5.2 of the EEA2 report is calculated one day prior to the actual start date and the day before the end date of the Employment Equity reporting period. For example, if the current reporting period is 1 Oct 2010 to 30 Sep 2011, the calculation of the Terminations for the current reporting period will be from 30 Sep 2010 (one day prior to 1 Oct 2010) to 29 Sep 2011 (one day before the end date of the reporting period). The reason for this is that an employee who resigns on the last day of the month is actually still employed on the last day of the Employment Equity reporting period, and therefore should not be counted as a termination in the current reporting period. They should only be counted as a termination in the next Employment Equity reporting period. This should be kept in mind when HR & Payroll statistics are compared with EEA statistics. There will be a difference in the headcounts when the EEA2 report is generated for one month and compared to the HR and Payroll headcounts for the same month. The example below illustrates the difference in headcounts:

The HR and Payroll headcount will include all the employees with a termination date in May, while the EEA headcount will include the employee terminated as from 30 Apr 2011 to 30 May 2011, and exclude the employees terminated on 31 May 2011.
The employees excluded will be counted as terminations when the EEA2 report is generated for June (following month). Terminations are not reported when an employee’s "Engagement date" and "Termination date: is the same date.
Terminated per reason: Counts, using the same criteria as in Terminations, with the exception that the counts are done per "Termination reason" and not per "Occupation level".
Promotions: Using the data defined above for the report, retrieves the compensation level for the position and job allocated to the employee as at the "Report period start date", or the "Employment valid from date" if employment began after the report period start date.
Also retrieved then, is the compensation level for the position and job allocated to the employee as at the "Report period end date" or the "Employment valid to date" if employment ended before the report period end date. The two levels are then compared to determine if there was a promotion.
Recruitment: The report counts each employee whose "Employment valid from date" is greater than, or equal to the "Report period from date", and less than or equal to the "Report period end date" i.e. the "Employee valid from date" is within the report period.
