The focus of Operational Excellence is a hybrid of cost containment, operational throughput, and a stable work force. The objective is a management team who are equipped to operationalize business strategy, implement change in their organization’s processes and systems, and maximize value over the life of the asset.
Mission, vision and values statements serve as the foundation for an organization’s strategic plan. They convey the purpose, direction and underlying values of the organization. When developed and implemented in a thoughtful and deliberate manner, these statements can serve as powerful tools that provide organizations with meaningful guidance, especially under times of rapid change. Consequently, taking the time to craft relevant mission, vision and value statements should be carefully considered.
Go to: GRC > Business excellence and strategy > Strategy statements
In the Year field, select the year that the statements are relevant for
The Corporate strategy wizard will guide the user through all the required steps to create the company’s corporate strategies. This wizard also allows the user to enter more strategy details.
Go to: GRC > Business excellence and strategy > Corporate strategy
Under the General Fast tab:
In the Button strip, click on the Add button
The Strategy ID will be populated by the system
Enter a brief Description of the strategy
Enter the date on which the strategy was Created
Select the relevant Status of the strategy from the dropdown list
Select the relevant Term from the dropdown list
Select the relevant Action and question group from the dropdown list
Complete the RACI Field group
Enter additional Notes
When the Closed box is ticked, the Closed date field will be populated with today’s date and the record will be locked.
Under the Strategic pillar Fast tab:
In the Button strip, click on the Add button
Select the relevant Strategic pillar from the dropdown list
Under the Questions Fast tab:
Enter the answers to the questions in the boxes provided
Click on the Commit button
Under the Business unit and department strategy Fast tab:
In the Button strip, click on the Add button
Select the relevant Department from the dropdown list
Enter the date on which the strategy was Created
Select the Responsible person from the dropdown list
Enter a brief Strategy description
Select the relevant Term from the dropdown list
Select the relevant Business impact value from the dropdown list
Enter the Cost impact amount
Select the relevant Currency from the dropdown list
In the Button strip, click on the View performance score button
On the Department score dialog, use the date filters to refine your search
Strategic pillars is a set of high-level objectives that defines the areas of activities and initiatives that directs the organization achieve its long-term goals.
Go to: GRC > Business excellence and strategy > Strategic pillar
In the Action pane, click on the New button
Enter the unique Strategic pillar ID
Enter a brief Description for the strategic pillar
Kaizen Events are usually conducted in the course of a week or 5 days to address a specific business problem, a Kaizen Event is essentially a ‘focused development project’ that is able to bring about crucial improvements in a short time span. In order for the Kaizen Event to be a success, they must have a definite and brief goal aside from being equipped with readily available resources with quick results.
Go to: GRC > Business excellence and strategy > Kaizen events
In the Action pane, click on the New button
On the New meeting dialog:
Enter the Meeting title
Select the meeting Date
In the Meeting type field, select Kaizen meetings from the dropdown list
Select the Meeting owner form the dropdown list
Click on the OK button
Kaizen meetings has to be setup on the Meeting types setup form

Process improvement refers to the practice of finding ways to make existing processes faster, more efficient, and more reliable. This practice should be considered as an ongoing exercise, rather than a one-time action.
Go to: GRC > Business excellence and strategy > Process improvements
In the Action pane, click on the New button
Select the relevant Process from the dropdown list
Select the Date on which the record was entered
Select the relevant Meeting from the dropdown list
The Meeting date and Meeting venue fields will be populated with the values from the selected meeting
Select the name of the worker who Created the improvement process
Enter brief details of the Waste/Variation identified
Select the name of the worker who Raised the issue that needs improvement
Enter brief details of the Decision taken to improve the process
Select the relevant Status of the process improvement from the dropdown list
Enter additional Ideas and Benefits in the boxes provided below the grid
The Move button on the Action pane locks the record and changes the status to Accepted
The Reject button on the Action pane, locks the record and changes the status to Rejected
Business processes have to be setup under GRC > Business continuity > Setup for business continuity > Business processes administration
